"As I entered the rear gallery of the David Kaye Gallery (www.davidkayegallery.com) in the Queen Street West gallery district of Toronto, Canada, my eyes had the luxury of taking in the rows of tea bowls, vases, jars, and mid-sized bowls that lined the walls at chest height and adorned the stool and table-height plinths in the exhibition titled, “Recent Works by Robert Archambeau.” The vase that spoke to me, and still speaks to me, and would be able to speak to me every day if I’d had $1800 in my pocket, is Bottle/Vase #9, a 14-inch tall, narrow-necked vessel that sports a banded spiraling motif subtly climbing its deeply hued, smoldering patina. Despite a heavy countenance, when I picked it up, I was delighted by its deft demeanor... "
