Technical Advances .. Crit Notes

• I had my mid term crit with Marc Egan and Gord Thompson today – just separating out technical innovation suggestions with conceptual sculpture development comments.  Technique:

  1. In order to resolve the “ends” of the bands reaching upward, try pulling the ends like handles to give a plastic, movement, clay look to the terminus.

  2. In order to avoid the mucky mess of handling marks as I form each piece, try using a heat gun to get the clay reasonably sheen free before moving it off the wheel.

  3. Try pinching a thin band just above the wheel and then cutting in at an angle so trimming is minimized, and handling is minimized.
