Julie Moon – a lesson in life

  • I headed out today with the intention of getting to the 80 Spadina group show featuring Julie Moon’s work.  I walked to Dovercourt and Queen and popped in on Craft City – it was a madhouse, but I zero’d in on Julie Moon’s work, and went and introduced myself and had a great connection with her – we talked about Alfred, her work – making the jewelry and small sculptures to sell to pay for the sculpture career and how diverse each body of work is.  She told me she was back and forth to TO from Alfred all the time and it really wasn’t that far, and encouraged me to look at Chicago and Concordia.  As it happened, the Queen Street car wasn’t running on that strip and I ended up walking home and heading to school.  I’ve seen Julie’s large work recently at C2G2, and I felt even more this intangible instant connection between artists of like mind – and how important it is to stay connected to support one another – it’s a difficult path we have all chosen, and the more friends out there in the vast world, the better.
